Head chef and owner Justin Doyle has been coming to the Wildwoods since he was a young child. His 38 years in the restaurant industry helped curate Square Peg’s unique menu. The restaurant’s unusual name came about because Justin has always done things the hard way, he said. “I’m always trying to take the difficult route by trying to fit a square peg into a round hole.”
Square Peg Round Hole Eatery is a family run business, with the entire family helping out. Diners will be greeted by Justin’s son Casey, the front of house manager, served by Justin’s daughter Molly, enjoy food prepared by Justin’s son Colin, the sous chef and back of house manager. Justin’s wife Brenda is the General Manager and like Justin, she has been coming to the Wildwoods since a young age and working in the Wildwoods.
Square Peg serves breakfast foods, soups, salads, sandwiches, appetizers and entrees. Enjoy the play on a traditional bagel with lox when you order a lilypad lox, which substitutes the bagel with cucumber slices. The cucumber is spread with cream cheese and topped with fresh cured salmon. The breakfast menu is available from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m.
You don’t have to wait until November to enjoy Thanksgiving fixings, when you can order The Thanksgiving sandwich! This delectable meal is served with cranberry aioli on a walnut raison roll and topped with fresh roasted turkey, hot stuffing and hot, homemade gravy and is served with French fries.
If your palate is a fan of barbecue, look no further than a Porky’s Revenge. This sandwich is comprised of homemade pulled pork, topped with fresh spinach, banana peppers and melted mozzarella cheese on a toasted garlic roll. Lunch and dinner are served from noon to 9 p.m. Dinner entrees begin at 4 p.m. Save room for a Lil S’more! This signature dessert is a s’more in a cup, made with roasted marshmallows, graham cracker wedges, chocolate chips, whipped cream and served in a cappuccino cup on a square plate.
The entire Doyle family contributed to creating Square Peg’s menu, including their fun names and mouthwatering descriptions! The family feel comes not only from visiting with your loved ones, but the hard work by the Doyle family to help their customers enjoy their meals! The Average Joes and Plain Janes section on the menu caters to those who may want a traditional hamburger or cheeseburger. The gluten-free section of the menu offers a nice selection for those who have food sensitivities.
Square Peg offers affordable dining and the menu pairs well with the welcoming staff! The restaurant offers a Jimbo’s $5 To Go Special is available for municipal or Wildwood City workers (special is $8 for all other customers) in honor of the previous owner.
Square Peg Round Hole has a North Wildwood Historical Landmark sign, commemorating the ground previously being home to the Margaret Mace Hospital! Once the home of Frederick Sutton, the building was sold to Dr. Mace after Sutton perished on the Titanic. Dr. Mace ran the Wildwood Sanatorium from 1915 to 1950 when she retired.
