Sherrie Hanagan Elected New President of Soroptimist International of Cape May County

Sherrie Hanagan

By Press Release

CAPE MAY – Sherrie Hanagan has been elected as the new President of the Cape May County chapter of Soroptimist International. Sherrie has been a member of SICMC for close to three years and is looking forward to leading the organizations’ efforts “to work together toward our common goal of supporting and empowering the women of Cape May County, in any way we can, to be strong, successful women.”
She was motivated to join the Soroptimist organization after she and her husband adopted their daughter. “I committed to being a strong female role model to her, and to showing her that it is important to volunteer in your community. I wanted her to see that you can make a difference in others’ lives, and in your community, by giving of yourself.” She went on to say that her daughter “very quickly caught on, and shortly after her adoption she made a quilt, and donated it to CASA, who advocated for her during her foster care and adoption journey.”
Sherrie is proud of the contributions that SICMC makes to our community. Through the work of many committed volunteers, the organization raises money to provide “awards and scholarships to women and girls who are working toward their goals of bettering themselves, and (also) by supporting local organizations such as Family Promise and CARA by providing funding and (wo)man power to complete projects and give their clients the resources they need, so that they can concentrate on their personal goals, such as family, education and career.”
Her only challenge as President will be “creating a balance in my own life.” But she realizes that she needs “to make time in my life for the things I am passionate about, and helping others is one of my passions!”
