Regatta, Gala to Benefit Cape Regional

COURT HOUSE — Commodore Jack Lord has announced the third annual Cape Regional Cup Regatta to be held on June 27 – 28, held at Corinthian Yacht Club of Cape May.
All activities are open to the public and no yacht club affiliation is required for participation. Special guest, Miss New Jersey of 2007 Amy Polumbo, will be attending the gala dinner on June 27 and the June 28 regatta, according to a release.
Polumbo, a theater-performance major at Wagner College on Staten Island, N.Y. will greet guests at the gala reception and will also entertain guests will a brief performance after dinner.
Proceeds from the weekend will benefit several programs at Cape Regional Medical Center, principally the Thomas and Claire Brodesser Jr. Cancer Center and the Robert J. Sorensen, MD Continuing Education Endowment Fund.
The weekend will begin with a dinner at Corinthian Yacht Club of Cape May catered by the Washington Inn, featuring dancing to the music of the “Central Park Band.”
A silent auction will be held with an array of selections to choose from during cocktail hour.
The price for dinner, cocktails, dancing and silent auction is $150. This event was sold out last year, so early reservations are suggested.
On June 27, Lasers and 420’s will be racing in Cape May Harbor during the gala.
On June 28, larger sailboats such as J-24’s, J-105’s and PHRF rated boats will be racing in the ocean just off the inlet.
A group of dedicated members of the yacht club, headed by Race Chairman, and Past Commodore Don Denny, will man committee boats and set race courses for both harbor and ocean racing.
Pre-registration for participation in the regatta is required.

Skippers’ Meeting will be held at Corinthian Yacht Club at 5:30 p.m. on June 27 and 9 a.m. on June 28 for the ocean racers.
The Yacht Club is adjacent to the Coast Guard Base on Delaware Avenue.
Trophies will be awarded by Polumbo and yacht club officers on after the racing.
