AVALON — Kathy Nace, president of the Cape May County Association of Realtors addressed the Cape May County Chamber of Commerce Sept. 20, in what promises to be a new partnership between merchants and real estate agencies to promote the county as a tourism destination.
“This is a great opportunity to work with the chamber of commerce, because our association has 1,500 Realtor brokers,” Nace told the general membership meeting at the Mirage, 79th and Third Avenue.
Those agents will be able to promote the area as they speak with potential buyers and renters.
“The chamber of commerce is an asset that Realtors need to be involved in,” Nace said.
From January 2006 through July of this year, 2,381 properties had been sold in the county through the Multiple Listing Service.
Year to date, 1,622 properties were sold, she said.
Those properties included residential, commercial, multi-family and condominiums, she added.
The market is “showing strength” in the county, while nationwide “the market slipped 2 percent,” Nace said.
“It is a buyer’s market,” she continued, referring to the county.
On average properties remain listed for seven to 12 months.
In resort areas there is a “trend,” Nace said to the return of weekly rentals as families, “Continue to make Cape May County a destination.”
Many of those vacationers return to purchase permanent dwellings.
Nace stressed the importance of Realtors since they provide area information to renters and buyers for stores, restaurants, hospitals, medical facilities and pet-friendly properties.
Many area Realtors distribute bags to weekly and monthly renters with information about those places.
The Cape May County Association of Realtors is involved in the community, Nace said.
As evidence, she said it is involved in Habitat for Humanity of Cape May County, Coalition Against Rape and Abuse, and has provided scholarships to area high school graduates with funds generated by its golf tournaments.
On an individual basis, many Realtors are involved in charitable organizations and in local organizations.
In order to promote the Cape May County Association of Realtors, an Oct. 6-7 open house at the Cape May County Chamber of Commerce headquarters, off Garden State Parkway at Crest haven Road, Court House.
Time for that event will be 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. both days.
