By Herald Staff

CAPE MAY POINT — Cape May Point Post Office’s Postmaster Melissa Lomax hosted an event July 23, to coincide with the first day of issuance of the Postal Service’s 2009 Gulf Coast Lighthouses by Artist Howard Koslow, as well as, the acceptance of two Herbert Pullinger prints, gifted to the borough’s post office by the Cape May County Art League.
Koslow’s five stamps depict the lighthouses of Matagorda Island, near Port O’Connor, Texas; Sabine Pass, near Sabine Pass, La.; Biloxi, in Biloxi, Miss.; Sand Island, near the entrance to Mobile Bay in Mobile, Ala.; and, Fort Jefferson (also known as Garden Key Lighthouse), nearly 70 miles west of Key West, Fla., in Dry Tortugas Park.
Special guests, Cape May County Art League President Arthur Joblin, and board member Anna Marie Zabielski, joined the event to personally gift, on behalf of the art league, two Herbert Pullinger’s art prints to the Cape May Point Post Office.
Pullinger captured the everyday scenes of the post war shore town on visits to the Cape May area during the 1940’s.
The prints are on permanent display in the post office lobby for viewing.
Other guests at the event were: Cape May Point Mayor Carl Schupp and South Jersey District’s Post Office Operations Manager Leonard Oaks.
To keep with the artistic theme of the event and pay tribute to the great historical and community ties of the Cape May Point Post Office, local artist and business woman, Pat Wenzel, displayed her current pen-and-watercolor painting of the Cape May Point Post Office.
Wenzel painted her rendition of the Cape May Point Post Office from a historical photo of the post office which is dated circa 1898.
