Marking a Special Memorial Day in Villas

By Herald Staff

VILLAS — It’s only fitting that Burt Arnold of Freedom Drive became the first homeowner from South Jersey Gas’ Villas extension project to switch to environmentally friendly and efficient natural gas.
Arnold is a proud veteran of the United States Marine Corps, who proudly served his country in World War II, the Korean War and Vietnam. In his own words, “I came home safe and sound and God Bless America.”
Arnold and his wife, Rita, who have been married for 54 years, took the advice of their sons – “They’re plumbers,” Arnold explained with a smile – and became one of the first applicants on their block to sign up for natural gas. With their gas line installed and their meter now activated, the Arnolds officially became the utility company’s first new customers from this long-awaited natural gas extension project.
Asked why he wanted to switch fuels, Arnold explained that he “felt natural gas was quite a bit more economical than propane.” As to the conversion process, he commented, “It was a pleasure to work with Heather McCurdy. The installation job was just outstanding. It was clean and efficient and the crew did a great job. I’m recommending to anybody who has any sense to switch to natural gas.”
