Governor Announces Retooled Economic Recovery Web Site

By Herald Staff

TRENTON — Gov. Jon S. Corzine today announced the State’s Economic Recovery Web site has been revamped and includes several user-friendly enhancements that make navigation easier. The Website can be viewed at www.nj.gov/recovery/ .
“Our Economic Recovery Web site was designed with transparency in mind,” Governor Corzine said. “With these improvements, the taxpayers of New Jersey can monitor the distribution and spending of federal recovery dollars in a more straightforward and less complicated manner.”
The Web enhancements include:
* An updated pie chart that provides a quick overview of the majority of funds coming to New Jersey and what these funds do;
* An expanded searchable map, by county, which now breaks down nine of the largest geographically based funding streams in the state. In addition, for transportation contracts that have already been awarded, the name of the contractor for the project is listed;
* A slideshow featuring ongoing projects in New Jersey receiving American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) funding;
* An email notification system to keep taxpayers informed of new information as it is added to the Website;
* An enhanced job creation section and a link to employment opportunities in the state.
The State’s Economic Recovery Website was originally launched this past March to outline New Jersey’s share of ARRA funding. A more complete picture of ARRA funding and its impact on New Jersey will be available when quarterly reporting to the federal government begins on October 30, 2009.
Under ARRA, $787 billion is being made available nationwide to create jobs and stimulate the U.S. economy. New Jersey will receive an estimated $17.5 billion in total benefits over the next three years. Of that amount, approximately $10 billion will be allocated for critically-needed services, assistance, and infrastructure investment, and about $7.3 billion will benefit individuals and businesses in New Jersey in the form of tax cuts.
The federal recovery funds complement Governor Corzine’s Economic Assistance and Recovery Plan, announced in last October during a joint session of the New Jersey Legislature. Since then, the Governor has advanced numerous efforts to stimulate New Jersey’s economy, create jobs, combat hunger, provide home energy assistance, and take proactive initiatives to prevent home foreclosures – all in response to the national economic recession.
