NEW CASTLE, DEL. — On March 18, Delaware River and Bay Authority Commissioners approved the
creation of a new same-day return trip fare for a standard-sized vehicle and its driver from Nov. 1,
2008 through March 31, 2009.
This new $10 vehicle fare for a same day return trip is valid for a one year trial period. The board action took place at the bi-state agency’s monthly meeting held in James Julian
Boardroom at the DRBA Administrative Complex here.
The new fare class for same day, return trip travel is as follows:
Vehicle and Driver Nov. 1 – March 31
Car, SUV, Pick up Trucks (vehicles less than 20’ length)
Same-Day Return Trip Value Fare $10
“The authority wants to make the ferry service more affordable for customers who travel round trip,
same day with standard-sized vehicles during the winter months, thereby encouraging more people to use
the service and generate additional revenues for the operation,” remarked Jim Walls, chief operations
officer for the DRBA. “The authority’s management will evaluate the impact of the new fare class on
vehicle traffic and make recommendations to the commissioners at the end of the trial period on whether
to continue the program.”
The DRBA also desires to promote business and commerce activity in the local communities of Delaware
and New Jersey that occurs as a result of such round trip, same day travel.
