OCEAN CITY – Crystal Freker, a Customer Service Representative at Ocean City Home Bank’s Mays Landing branch, has donated numerous hours to the scholarship fund that honors the memory of her sister, beloved Mainland Regional High School teacher Peggy Ramirez. Not only has Crystal raised scholarships for deserving Mainland students, but she also has the distinction of being the Banks first Volunteer of the Quarter.
At Ocean City Home Bank, we have so many community-minded employees who give their time to charitable causes, we decided to expand our volunteer recognition program to include quarterly awards, as well as a yearly prize, explained Steve Brady, President and Chief Executive Officer of Ocean City Home Bank. When Crystal was faced with the sudden loss of her sister, she thought not of her own grief, but how to pay tribute to her sister by helping area students. Her selflessness and hard work make her a perfect choice for our first Volunteer of the Quarter.
Crystals sister, Peggy Ramirez, taught Spanish at Mainland Regional High School in Linwood. When Peggy died unexpectedly, Crystal and her family founded the Peggy Ramirez Scholarship Fund to offer scholarships to deserving students. The charity organizes several fundraisers each year, and Crystal plays a key role in the planning of the groups main fundraiser, securing a venue, soliciting donations, selling tickets, organizing incoming donations, and handling the administrative aspects of the event.
As Ocean City Home Banks Volunteer of the Quarter, Crystal will receive a cash prize, a donation to the charity of her choice, and two extra hours of personal time.
