Comcast Internet in County Gets Faster

By Herald Staff

PHILADELPHIA — Comcast recently announced that it has completed upgrades to its advanced fiber-optic network serving Cape May County, doubling Internet speeds to the average customer at no additional cost. With the upgrades, most customers in these areas are seeing download speeds up to 15 Mbps, according to a release.
Also, the company is introducing new premium speed tiers of 50 Mbps and 22 Mbps.
The majority of customers take Comcast’s Performance tier of service, which previously delivered 6 Mbps download/1 Mbps upload speeds.
Now, they have seen their speeds double to 12 Mbps down/2 Mbps up; with PowerBoost technology, speeds are up to 15 Mbps on downloads. Customers who subscribe to the Performance Plus service have increased to 16 Mbps/ 2 Mbps from 8 Mbps/ 2 Mbps.
With PowerBoost, speeds reach up to 20 Mbps on downloads.
The speed increase was enabled by Comcast’s upgrade from broadband to wideband technology and the launch of next-generation DOCSIS 3.0.
With wideband, Comcast introduces a brand new echelon of Internet speed tiers, which redefine the customer experience online and create a platform for Internet innovation in the years ahead.
“Wideband is a game-changer. With wideband running over our next-generation fiber-optic network, we can greatly enhance our customers’ online experience immediately,” said Amy Smith, senior vice president of Comcast’s Freedom Region. “These speeds are only a preview of what’s to come — wideband will provide the capability of delivering dramatically faster speeds in the future.”
With PowerBoost technology, customers are able to enjoy even faster speeds to download and upload files such as videos, games, music and photos.
PowerBoost, first introduced in 2006, is Comcast’s network technology that increases customers’ broadband performance, at no additional charge.
PowerBoost technology utilizes additional capacity already built into Comcast’s advanced fiber network to provide customers with extra bursts of both downstream and upstream speed.
As part of the wideband deployment, Comcast is launching two new premium speed tiers to its residential and business class customers – in addition to boosting speeds of the Business Class Triple Play.
