NORTH WILDWOOD — The Travel Channel’s Great Weekends Show with Samantha Brown filmed an episode at Cool Scoops Ice Cream Parlor in North Wildwood on June 29.
Large crowds gathered early to see “The King of the Twist,” Chubby Checker arrive in his 48-foot travel trailer.
In the episode, Checker taught Brown how to Twist and danced with fans at Cool Scoops Ice Cream Parlor and signed autographs for hours following the taping.
The show called ‘Rockin’ the Jersey Shore’ will air in January 2010.
Cool Scoops was chosen for the segment for its extensive collection of 50s memorabilia. Owners Paul and Lori Russo offered sweet treats for the cast and crew.
Paul Russo discussed the musical history of the Wildwoods and showed Brown how to create a new a sundae, the Samantha Brown-e Sundae.
The public was invited to wear Poodle Skirts and 50s attire.
Checker introduced the ‘Twist’ in Wildwood almost 50 years ago.
This Jersey Shore episode for the Travel Channel will also include other vacation locations in Atlantic City and Asbury Park.
