COURT HOUSE – When the Cape Bank Charitable Foundation issued a $25,000 challenge grant on behalf of the Boys & Girls Club of Atlantic City on Monday, it hoped individuals and other businesses would follow suit in helping the youth of our community. On Tuesday, the Law Firm of Perskie Mairone Brog & Baylinson pledged $500 per attorney or $2,500 and is encouraging other firms to do the same.
“Our $2,500 donation represents $500 from each of the lawyers in our firm. We would like to see other law firms in Atlantic City and surrounding areas match our $500 per attorney gift to help the kids of Atlantic City and all that the Boys and Girls club does.”
“If the big firms in our area pledged $500 per attorney, we would do more than just guarantee Cape Bank’s $25,000 gift”. “We would go a long way to solving the financial problems of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Atlantic City.”
The Mission of the Boys & Girls Club of Atlantic City is to provide resources for the development of young people, from all backgrounds, to realize their full potential as responsible, caring, adults. The Club does this by providing a safe environment with a full schedule of great activities and age-appropriate services.
The club suspended its programs Thursday after falling into debt, a situation blamed mostly on lost grants.
“We are thrilled that other businesses are taking part in our $25,000 Challenge Grant, and coming up with their own creative challenges,” said Michael D. Devlin, President and Chief Executive Officer of Cape Bank and a member of the Board of the Cape Bank Charitable Foundation. “The Boys & Girls Club of Atlantic City plays a vital role in the care, education and development of children within our community. If our challenge has helped create a competitive and giving environment, we couldn’t be happier.”
