Byrne Doo Wop Experience Museum Dedication

By Herald Staff

WILDWOOD – The Doo Wop Preservation League will officially name the Byrne Doo Wop Experience building on Saturday, April 25 at 1 p.m. at the site of this exciting new addition to the island’s tourism landscape.
A plaque will be placed in front of the building to memorialize the name and recognize the support given by the Byrne Family foundation that made it possible to move and rebuild a  Doo Wop icon, the Surfside Restaurant,  as the Doo Wop Experience.
Several others who supported this project will also be recognized including Crest Savings Bank, the Cape May County Freeholders, Jack Morey and the Morey Family, Mayor Ernie Troiano and the City of Wildwood; Lou Ferrera and the Urban Enterprise Zone program, John Siciliano and the Greater Wildwoods Tourism Improvement and Development Authority, building curator Captain Charles “Chuck” Schumann, building committee members Joan Husband and Mary Fox, sign builder Randy Hentges, and Doo Wop architect Richard Stokes, AIA.  Dozens of other businesses and residents also contributed and will be recognized as the supporters of the first stage of the project when the Surfside was disassembled, labeled, and moved to its new Fox Park location.
The program will be broadcast live on WIBBAGE FM 94.3, the official “Voice of Doo Wop for the Wildwoods by-the-Sea” and hosted by “Philly Bill” Culp and Rick Rock as part of their Sensational Sixties remote broadcast from Fox Park and the Doo Wop Experience.
Visitors can also participate in the grand opening of the Doo Wop Malt Shop under management of Ron Fulton.  The Malt Shop will operate with extended hours this year and feature Ron’s private brand deluxe ice cream and a fine menu of sandwiches and treats themed on the mid-century era.  Attend the naming, try the fascinating new Lynch I-wall and then have a sandwich, drink and ice cream.
All this plus the exciting Sensational Sixties show in the Doo Wop Experience Fox Park band shell.  What a great way to start another summer season in the Doo Wop Capital of America.
The Doo Wop Experience is located at 4500 Ocean Avenue, Wildwood By-the-Sea, NJ directly across from the Greater Wildwoods Convention Center.
