Avalon Free Public Library Designated as 5-Star Library Eight Times by Library Journal

AVALON – The Avalon Free Public Library (AFPL) has been recognized as one of the nation’s top libraries for the eighth time since 2009 by “Library Journal.” The “LJ” Index of Public Library Service, featured in its November 2015 edition, listed the Avalon Free Public Library with the 5-star rating, along with Bernardsville Public Library and Mercer County Library in Lawrenceville. Others in the state receiving designation included Princeton Public Library with four stars and Ocean City Free Public Library and Somerset County Library with three stars.
The “LJ” Index of Public Library Services reviews data collected from local libraries annually by state library agencies and reported by the federal institute of Museum and Library Services. The data reviewed includes four per capita output measures that indicate public service through circulation, visits, program attendance and Internet terminal use. Director Norman Gluckman had this to say about the 5-star rating: “One of the largest contributory factors to our success is a well-trained staff committed to good customer service. Certainly, the guidance and support we receive from the Library Board of Trustees, the school district, the Borough, the Friends of the Library, Historical Society and our patrons has also helped the library to successfully respond to the needs of the community.”
