MAYS LANDING — Lace up your sneakers, snap on a sweatband, and come join AtlantiCare for a run! The second annual AtlantiCare 5K, presented by the AtlantiCare LifeCenter, will take place Oct. 5 at the scenic Estell Manor Park in Mays Landing, and will include a 5K run and a one-mile walk.
Proceeds from the event will benefit the AtlantiCare Heart Heroes, a volunteer group that raises funds for the Heart Institute at AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center through the AtlantiCare Foundation to place Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) in the community. The Heart Heroes fund a portion of the AED and community groups and/or organizations provide the remaining funds. Since the program was founded in 2002, more than 100 AEDs have been placed in the schools, places of worship, fire departments and other community locations throughout southern New Jersey. AEDs can restore a normal heart rhythm in victims of sudden cardiac arrest. Audible and/or visual prompts guide the user through the process.
Pre-registration is $25, and runners can sign up through the AtlantiCare Access Center by calling 1-888-569-1000. Registration the day of the run begins at 8 a.m. and is $30. The race begins at 9 a.m. Prizes will be awarded in each division.
