MAYS LANDING – Atlantic Cape Community College conferred the fourth President’s Distinguished Alumni Award to Dr. Valerie Travis-Reese of Camden, a licensed professional counselor, at the 46th annual commencement, May 23.
Dr. Travis-Reese is the first person in her family to graduate from college and graduate school. The Egg Harbor City native graduated with an associate degree in liberal arts from Atlantic Cape in 1982. In 1992, she earned a bachelor’s degree from Rutgers University, and she earned a master’s degree from Rowan University in 1994. She completed her doctorate in education from Argosy University in 2011.
Dr. Travis-Reese established her own practice—Miracles of the Minds LLC, a mental health private practice and consulting firm in Cherry Hill.
The single-mother of two children worked as a mental health therapist, family intervention specialist, prevention specialist and mental health resource at a variety of practices, organizations, agencies and school districts, including: Partners in Parenting Program, Bucks County School District, Camden City High School system, Robin’s Nest, DYFS, Camden Board of Education, the juvenile justice system, Danielle Counseling Center in Glassboro, Moorestown Community Counseling Center, the Sikora Center in Camden, Princeton Family Institute and Family Service Association.
The award, initiated by Atlantic Cape’s Alumni Association Advisory Committee, recognizes an Atlantic Cape graduate who has displayed professional, personal, public or community-based accomplishments. The prestigious award demonstrates Atlantic Cape’s dedication to strengthening its alumni relations. Past recipients include Atlantic City Attorney Katherine Morris, Linwood Attorney Michael R. Rann and Superintendent of Northfield Community Schools Janice DeCicco Fipp.
