Avalon Free Public Library to Host Bay Atlantic Symphony Concert Featuring Janice Carissa

AVALON — The Bay Atlantic Symphony will perform the final show of its popular Symphony by the Sea series on Sat., Aug. 13 at 7 p.m. at the Avalon Elementary School, 235 32nd St. The concert, “Ocean and Mountains,” is sponsored by the Avalon Free Public Library and will feature 17-year-old piano phenomenon Janice Carissa.
“Oceans and Mountains” will be conducted by longtime Bay Atlantic Symphony Director Jed Gaylin and will showcase a musical piano tour starting with Mozart Overture to Idomeneo. Carissa, who has thrilled audiences across the country and abroad, will perform Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 5 in D major, K.175.
A native of Indonesia, Carissa attends Philadelphia’s Curtis Institute of Music, where she studies with Gary Graffman and Robert McDonald. At just 17, she has already received many prestigious awards and honors, including being named a Young Scholar of Lang Lang’s International Music Foundation. She has captivated audiences across the world with performances at Weill Recital Hall of New York’s Carnegie Hall, the Frederick Chopin University of Music’s Grand Concert Hall in Warsaw, the Theatre Hall of The Lipinski Academy of Music & Ryszard Bukowski Wroclaw in Poland, and Australia’s Sydney Opera House, among other prestigious venues.
Tickets for each performance are free of charge, and available to the general public at the library two weeks prior to each performance. Seating for the concerts are available on a first-come, first-served basis.
The Avalon Free Public Library is celebrating its 10th anniversary and has received a 5-star rating in the Library Journal’s national rating of public libraries. Attendees are encouraged to “Check It Out” and visit the library to browse the wide range of programs and services offered including Hoopla, OverDrive, Freegal, TumbleBooks and more. The library’s extensive collection includes classics, best sellers, movies, video games and a wide range of reference information.
