OCEAN CITY – Ocean City’s American Legion Auxiliary Unit 524 sponsored three young ladies from the area to attend the 2017 Girls State Conference at Georgian Court University (Lakewood, NJ) this summer.
The Auxiliary provided the necessary financial support to send the qualified candidates to Girls’ State, where they actively participated in programs about how government is run at the city, state, and national levels.
During their time at Girls State, the young ladies ran for office, held campaign rallies, delivered speeches, created campaign artwork, and learned about many government-related activities.
The participants, all high school juniors, attended a recent Auxiliary meeting to share their experiences.
“Offering this experience of a lifetime to high school junior women with an interest in government is an important part of our mission,” said Ocean City American Legion Auxiliary President, Susan L. Newkirk. “We may be helping to mold a future leader of Ocean City, New Jersey or the United States.”
