BURNS, DR. JOHN R.

BURNS, DR. JOHN R. Dr. John Robert Burns, 76, of South Dennis, NJ, formerly of Philadelphia, PA, passed away peacefully on December 23, 2023. His cause of death was Pulmonary Fibrosis. John graduated from the University of Scranton with a Bachelor of Science, Glassboro State College (now Rowan) with a Master of Arts, and the University of Pennsylvania with a Doctorate in Education. John was employed in both teaching and administration during his career. He taught locally at St. Ann's School, and then held administrative positions at Mullica Township School District, Millville School District, and closed out his career in education at the Cumberland County Technical Education Center. He was also a tutor for the child performers in the road show "Annie" for several years. Concurrently John served in the Coast Guard Auxiliary for over 30 years with Flotilla 82 in Cape May. For many years he had season tickets to Penn basketball games that he would attend with his daughter, Shannon. John would like to thank his wife and daughter, friends and relatives, physicians, pulmonary rehabilitation team at Cape Regional, and Enoble Hospice for their support over the past two years. He is survived by his loving wife Christine, daughter Shannon, and many caring cousins and in-laws. Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, January 11, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady of the Angels Church, 35 East Mechanic Street, Cape May Court House, where visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Cape May. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Cape May County Coast Guard Community Foundation, P.O.
