AVALON – After a long period of delay, the borough has sought bids for the revamping of Bay Park Marina. That was the news delivered by Business Administrator Scott Wahl at the Borough Council meeting Wednesday, July 10.

Plans for the marina include a new bulkhead and boat launch ramp, Americans With Disabilities Act improvements, added boat slips and an updated marina building.

Wahl has said in the past that the renovation and beautification effort at the marina has three major goals. He’d outlined those goals as improved resiliency at the park to flooding, an increasing problem there; added access for those with disabilities or the mobility issues that come with age, and improved environmental sustainability.

Two of the ways in which flooding will be alleviated are through higher elevation for the boat ramp and a new design for stormwater drainage in the parking area, where runoff will be trapped and dissipated by a new system.

Wahl said the project was delayed during the pandemic and then continued to face permit challenges. He added that the borough will open bids in early August.
