AVALON – A fire that broke out in a home under construction in the 4600 block of Fourth Avenue Tuesday evening, Sept. 24, is under investigation by the Cape May County fire marshal but is not considered suspicious.

The fire caused extensive damage to the structure and also damaged a neighboring home.

Information posted on the borough’s Facebook page said firefighters responded to the house at around 10:10 p.m. on Sept. 24. The firefighters found heavy flames on the second and third floors.

Fire crews from Ocean View, Sea Isle City and Stone Harbor also responded. The blaze was under control in about 75 minutes.

Power was temporarily shut off to nearby homes as firefighters put out the flames. There were no injuries reported as a result of the fire.
