How do you want to be treated? When you go out of the comfort and security of your home into this nasty world of rushed, agitated and, angry people, how are you treated? Do you receive a genuine smile with a greeting, or a growl of “what do you want?”? Do you ever think that maybe their lives are really pretty rotten, and they are hurting physically, spiritually, and emotionally? You may be the “last straw that broke the camel’s back”. They may be your last straw!
What about the weekend drivers? How does rage get so severe that people shoot each other? I believe it goes much deeper than you cutting them off in traffic. Rage like that has been boiling over for some time.
The world is full of intolerence, rage, and impatience. We all need to “take it down a notch or two”, as my dear friend Georgie says. Why are we all in such a hurry? Is it because we take on too much in our lives, that it is next to impossible to do it all? Who puts on us these demands? Often, it is ourselves. We don’t have the time and patience to really look at another person’s life, and say to ourselves, “I will treat them with a kind word, and bless them”.
God knows our lives are busy, and He knows our hearts. It sure is hard to be nice to people who aren’t very nice to us. He knows we need to work, and make the money to care for our families. Some jobs are really hard. Do we work two and three jobs to do that, or are we greedy. I do not know your situation, but if all you do is work, when do you spend time with the family that God has given you. God will supply our needs if we trust Him. Give time to Him, spending time with His people, and reading His Word. God can give you the time you need to accomplish what really is important.
If we weren’t so rushed, so greedy for more, so quick to spend our time and money on things that don’t really matter, then we would probably all be in better moods. We would treat each other kinder. The way we want to be treated. Next time you want to snap at a slow waitress, think first, “What is life like in her shoes”? Do I really need to add to her stress and mine?
Smile at someone, and see if they don’t smile back!
Do unto others as you want them to do unto you. The Golden Rule
