STONE HARBOR – Four members of American Legion Post 331 from Stone Harbor visited Veterans Haven South in Winslow Township on Tuesday, September 26th. Veterans Haven South is a New Jersey Department of Military and Veterans Affairs (DMAVA) veterans’ home for homeless veterans.
Its Veterans Transitional Housing Program provides long-term psychological, social, and vocational rehabilitation to transition veterans into permanent housing. The four members of Post 331 were Commander Tom McCullough, Second Vice Commander Byram Salmons, Trustee Jon Ready, and Historian Art Faint.
The purpose of the visit was to observe the distribution of pillows and robes donated by Post 331 to the residents of the home. The home has approximately 100 resident veterans in its transitional program. Brigadier General Patrick Kennedy and Donshae Joyner, the home’s Superintendent and Assistant superintendent, took the Legionnaires on a tour of the facility highlighting the extensive physical improvements that had been made over the past year.
They also showed them the industrial-capacity refrigerator that Post 331 had purchased for the home. The visit ended with an agreement for continued Post 331 support of the home’s veterans and discussions of the specifics of this support.
