The captain of the USS Liberty in 1967 received the Medal of Honor after his ship was attacked by jet aircraft and then by torpedo boats, the attacks killing 200 U.S. personnel. The severely wounded captain remained on the bridge, leading successful damage control efforts for over 17 hours until another U.S. Navy ship arrived to assist the Liberty. It's history worth knowing and remembering as this occurred in the Mediterranean and not off Vietnam.
