STONE HARBOR – Stone Harbor Council discussed the establishment of a municipal pier at the 80th Street marina, Dec. 6, offering a variety of back bay experiences for residents and visitors.
Mayor Judith Davies-Dunhour said the concept would involve creating the pier and going through a bid process whereby vendors could propose various services that would use the pier. She mentioned small fishing charters, sunset cruises on the bay and bay tours with potential educational programming built into them.
“We would run it the way we do many recreation programs at the rec center,” she said.
Outside organizations run camps and programs using borough facilities.
Davies-Dunhour expressed the hope that some back bay experiences might be available as early as the 2023 summer season.
“The concept seeks to make better use of our most underutilized asset,” said Councilwoman Jennifer Gensemer, referring to the borough’s marina. “Most of our residents and visitors do not live on the bay and would enjoy access.”
