OCEAN CITY – Beach tags in the county’s northernmost shore town will see an increase in 2023, The Press of Atlantic City reported.
City council passed an ordinance unanimously approving the increase at their meeting Oct. 20.
Daily tags are doubling in price, from $5 to $10. Seasonal tags will increase to $35 from their current $25. The pre-season discount remains, but the cost will be $30 rather than $20.
Councilman Bob Barr said the increase was a way for the city to maintain its beaches as a safe, clean and fun place, The Press reported.
The fees associated with beach tags are intended to cover the costs of maintaining the beach, from trash removal and maintenance workers to lifeguards. The tags are not a revenue stream, but intended to cover costs of operation, said councilwoman Karen Bergman, The Press reported.
The increase is reportedly the first increase to the fees in over ten years.
