Comment Period for Ocean Wind 1 Extended to Aug. 23

The Ocean Wind 1 farm will sit 15 miles off the coast from Ocean City.

WASHINGTON – The Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) has extended the public comment period for the Draft Environmental Impact Statement (DEIS) 15 calendar days.

Public comment will now be accepted up to and including Aug. 23. The previous deadline had been Aug. 8.

BOEM indicated that the extension was made in response to requests from the public and what is being called “a technical correction” in Ocean Wind’s Construction and Operating Plan. The correction concerns inshore export cable route options for the point of interconnect at Oyster Creek.

In public hearings on the impact statement, BOEM was frequently asked to provide the public with more time given the voluminous nature of the DEIS, which is over 1,400 pages long. The agency held to its cut-off date for comments until Aug. 3, when it announced the extension.

The draft impact statement was first posted on the BOEM website June 24. Three virtual public hearings were held in July.
