CAPE MAY – Cape May City Council heard a presentation of its newly formulated Dune Vegetation Management Plan from environmental consultant Peter Lomax, of the Lomax Consulting Group, May 2.
The plan was later adopted by resolution. Its next stop is Trenton, where it will go for review by the state Department of Environmental Protection (DEP). The goal there is jurisdictional determination approval by the DEP.
The approved plan will provide the city with a framework “with standards, techniques, and defined processes for addressing dune vegetation controls and enhancements,” according to the adopted resolution.
Among the dune stabilization and preservation challenges listed are addressing invasive and hazardous species, damaging vines, unauthorized dune access, and infrastructure and repair issues.
Once the developed plan has gained DEP approval, the second phase of the project will be the implementation of the plan by the city and “its program participants.”
