AVALON – At its meeting May 24, Avalon Borough Council adopted an ordinance formally establishing a tree dedication program.
The program provides residents and visitors with an opportunity to memorialize the memory of one or more family members and friends while simultaneously supporting the borough’s efforts to enhance its tree resources.
The tree dedication provides an alternative to the popular bench memorials, which had to be temporarily halted because the borough was running out of locations to place yet another bench.
Under the new program, the borough, with the advice of the Environmental Commission, will select the trees and locations and set fees for dedications. The program becomes effective July 1, 2023.
The program will be funded from the proceeds of the dedications, the funds from which will be separate and apart from the borough’s current fund budget.
