RIO GRANDE – A 58-year-old Wildwood woman was struck by a car Friday, Nov. 3, while apparently attempting to cross Route 47 near the Herald building.

According to the accident report provided by the Middle Township Police Department, the 55-year-old female driver of the vehicle, who is from Rio Grande, was traveling east on Route 47 South at around 8 p.m., when a pedestrian stepped off the curb and into the traffic lane. The vehicle then struck the pedestrian, who sustained serious bodily injuries and was unable to communicate with officers. The pedestrian was taken to an area hospital. Her condition is unknown at this time.

The driver told police she did not see the pedestrian on the curb because of the pedestrian’s dark clothes.

Police said the driver was uninjured and the vehicle sustained moderate damage to its front bumper and hood. The driver was not charged in the incident, police said.
