Press Release

What: A festival with hot rods, live music, and more in a historic hangar

When: Saturday, June 28, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Where: Historic hangar #1 at the Cape May Airport

Naval Air Station Wildwood (NASW) Aviation Museum invites the public to its popular Wings & Things Arts & Crafts Festival featuring Hot Rods at the Hangar. The festival will once again transform the museum’s historic WWII hangar into a lively celebration of history, creativity, community, and cars!

The day will be packed with family-friendly activities, including live music by Radio Revolution, hands-on adult and kids crafts, a model airplane building workshop, face painting, military vehicles, a 9/11 Fire Truck, RC car racing, race car simulators, and war gaming with South Jersey Gamers Association. Funny Farm Rescue will also be on-site with various animals. Aviation enthusiasts will have the chance to explore more than 26 historic aircraft, including NASW’s newest arrival, an AV-8B+ Harrier II on loan from the National Naval Aviation Museum, as well as a special fly-in appearance by Jeff Chorman in his T-28 Trojan, weather and weather and maintenance permitting.

Auto enthusiasts will enjoy Hot Rods at the Hangar, showcasing an exciting lineup of nearly 100 vintage and modern cars. Guests can also enjoy local flavors from food trucks Hit the Road Jack, El Pueblo Taqueria, and Poppin’ Bob, and relax in the Beer & Wine Garden. Inside the hangar, visitors can shop for unique, handmade goods from local artisans and vendors, including jewelry, artwork, photography, pottery, and more.

The event will also feature a special exhibit of student artwork from NASW’s Soarin’ High Art Contest, which invited K–12 students to create original works inspired by the theme “Things That Fly.” Artwork submissions will be proudly displayed throughout the festival.

New this year, NASW is the host to The Longest Yarn, a remarkable traveling exhibit inspired by the 80th anniversary of D-Day. This 265-foot-long, three-dimensional wool tapestry, knitted and crocheted by volunteers from around the world, depicts the pivotal events of June 6, 1944, and the Allied liberation of France. The tapestry was created with the guidance of historians and made its debut in Carentan, France, in 2024. The Longest Yarn will be on display at NASW through Labor Day.

Admission includes access to both the festival and the museum’s exhibits. Festival proceeds support NASW’s mission to preserve and share aviation history. Come join us at NAS Wildwood Aviation Museum on June 28th, where creativity and history take flight!

Naval Air Station Wildwood Aviation Museum is located inside historic Hangar #1 at the Cape May Airport. The site was formerly Naval Air Station Wildwood, which served as a World War II dive-bomber training center. The museum is dedicated to the 42 aviators who perished while training at Naval Air Station Wildwood between 1943 and 1945. Current museum hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily.

Wings & Things is made possible in part by funding from the New Jersey State Council on the Arts, National Endowment for the Arts, and Cape May County Division of Culture and Heritage.
