POLICE LIGHTS DAYTIME

LOWER TOWNSHIP – A Villas man was arrested Tuesday, March 4, and charged with lewdness after allegedly being seen naked by several juveniles.

Lower Township Police Chief Kevin Lewis and Cape May County Prosecutor Jeff Sutherland issued a joint press release announcing the arrest of Robert McKinley, 55, of Greenwood Avenue. McKinley was found to be the subject of a lewdness complaint involving several juveniles, who on Wednesday, Feb. 26, reported a naked man in the 100 block of West Greenwood Avenue.

The Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit and the Lower Township Police Department launched a joint investigation after the reports, and on March 4, members of the county’s Regional SWAT Team executed a search warrant at McKinley’s residence.

He was taken into custody and charged with three counts of fourth-degree lewdness and three counts of third-degree endangering the welfare of a child. He is currently being held at the Cape May County Correctional Center pending court proceedings.

If convicted, a third-degree crime carries a potential prison sentence of three to five years.

Sutherland urged anyone with additional information regarding the case to contact the Lower Township Police Department or the Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit at 609-465-1135, or to submit an anonymous tip through the Prosecutor’s Office website at cmcpo.tips.
