Obituary

VEY, MARY THERESA

VEY, MARY THERESA Mary Theresa (Hunt) Vey – also known as "MT" – passed away on May 25th, 2024 after a long battle with cancer. Her final moments were spent peacefully in her home in North Cape May, surrounded by family and close friends. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her; she lives on in the memory of the countless lives she touched. Born in Darby, PA in 1956, Mary Theresa grew up in Delaware County, PA, graduating from Cardinal O'Hara High School in 1974. Not long after graduating Saint Joseph's University in 1978, she would come to reside in Cape May County, and she would meet and subsequently marry her husband Michael Vey in 1980, where they would eventually raise their 4 children. After a successful career as a tax preparation specialist spanning 3 decades, she made the decision to return to academia and earn a Master's Degree in Church Management from Villanova University in 2017, which she put to use in her role as the Administrative Assistant for the parish of Notre Dame De la Mer in Wildwood. Mary Theresa was unfathomably devoted to her family and friends, passionate in her service to her community, and unshakeable in her faith. Over the years, she played pivotal roles in the support of families and children. She twice served as a leader in the NJ National Guard Family Readiness Program – providing resources and resilience to families whose loved ones are deployed for military duty – when her own husband was called to combat overseas. She was a persistent volunteer and participant in the primary education of her children, proactively engaged in activities at St. Ann Regional School and then Wildwood Catholic High School; even after her children had grown into adulthood, Mary Theresa – or "Coach Mary" – would continue to serve as a Wildwood Catholic cheerleading coach for over 20 years. She was instrumental in the efforts to prevent Wildwood Catholic High School from closing due to budgetary cutbacks, which ultimately led to the creation of Wildwood Catholic Academy. She had worked tirelessly in support of the TJ Hunt Memorial Foundation, formed after the tragic passing of her nephew. As an office administrator as well as a lector and eucharistic minister for the parish of Notre Dame De la Mer, her voice and smile were a familiar and reassuring constant for the parishioners. She is survived by her husband of 43 years Michael, their 4 children – Christine, Michael and his wife Robyn, Carin (Vey) Montes and her husband Darren, and Matthew – and 1 grandchild Leona Montes. She is also survived by her father John Hunt Sr "Jack", her sisters Pat, Cathie, and JoAnne, and her brothers Tom, Chaz, Jim, and Steve. Further surviving family includes scores of siblings-in-law, nieces, nephews, and cousins. Mary Theresa is predeceased by her mother Mary Jane (Timpko) Hunt, and her brother John Hunt, Jr "Jay". A public ceremony will be held on Wednesday May 29th, 2024 at Church of the Assumption, 7100 Seaview Avenue, Wildwood Crest, NJ 08260; the family will receive guests for visitation beginning at 10 AM until 11:45 AM, followed by a Roman Catholic Mass at 12PM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mary's name to the TJ Hunt Memorial Foundation, the Jaysmiles Foundation, and to Wildwood Catholic Academy. Condolences at www.radzieta.com
