PETERSBURG – Upper Township announced that, after months of logistics, plans, and approvals, the Upper Township Committee approved an almost $1.4 million bond for more than two dozen roads, sidewalks and curbs.

“Mayor Jay Newman and Deputy Mayor Kim Hayes have made paving roads a top priority in the community,” said Township Administrator Gary DeMarzo, “so, we went to work.”

DeMarzo said some of these roads have been neglected or forgotten for more than 30 years and some have actually been reverting back to gravel.

“This project was all hands on deck, and it took the cooperation of the engineers, public works, finance, the clerk’s office, bond council and so many others just to bring us to the point where the committee will now be able to pave more than two dozen streets in the township,” DeMarzo said.

“We continue to fix, address and face head-on issues that have long been set aside, working as a team the success has not gone unnoticed,” Newman said.

“This is just the start and it’s the vision to continue with a repaving roads program that will be incorporated into each budget year,” Hayes said. “The township’s road program only compliments the county and state projects that the township is working hand-in-hand with. We all work very well together.”

Newman echoed Hayes comments saying the support he has received has been very motivating.

“It’s promises made, promises kept,” he said.
