SEA ISLE CITY – Two city police officers were promoted at ceremonies at Municipal Court June 2, when patrolman Michael Mol was promoted to sergeant, and Sgt. Shawn Lesniewski was promoted to lieutenant.
After a welcome and introductions from Police Chief Anthony Garreffi Jr., Mayor Leonard Desiderio swore them in. The courtroom was filled with officers from Sea Isle City and surrounding towns, as well as former local officers and family and friends.
Mol graduated from Archbishop Ryan High School in Northeast Philadelphia and Neumann College in Pennsylvania, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice. He was a seasonal officer in Sea Isle from 2004 to 2009 and was hired full time by the city Police Department in 2009, upon his graduation from the Cape May County Police Academy. He will now also serve as a firearms and radar Instructor for Cape May County.
Lesniewski graduated from Atlantic Cape Community College with an associate’s degree in liberal arts, and Rowan University with an education degree. In 2011 he was hired full time in Sea Isle City, upon his graduation from the county Police Academy. He was a detective for the department from 2014 to 2017 and was promoted to sergeant in 2019.
He is also a physical trainer, drill and emergency vehicle operations instructor and field training officer for the county. He completed the New Jersey Association of Chiefs of Police Command and Leadership program in 2023, and he was recently presented the department’s Officer of the Year award for his life-saving and meritorious service. In 2020 he helped deliver the first baby born in Sea Isle City since the 1970s.
While addressing the two honorees, Garreffi said, “These promotions will entail working hard, embracing new challenges and sacrifices, and you are being given an opportunity to stand out and lead others.”
