TIPPING, ELIZABETH O.
Elizabeth O. Tipping passed away on December 10, 2024. Beth was predeceased by her loving husband Joseph V. Tipping, Jr. in 2022, and is survived by her faithful companion, “Murphy.”
She was a graduate of Little Flower Catholic High School in Philadelphia and Penn State in Happy Valley. Beth and Joe first met thanks to a bulletin board at Penn State where they were students. When her car was no longer fit to drive, Beth posted a note on a campus bulletin board. It read, “Need ride, will pay for gas.” Her future husband responded.
For decades, Beth and Joe occupied parking spot No. 1 in the lot outside Beaver Stadium. On game days, that's where they parked their “Nittany Jitney,” a 28-foot recreational vehicle featuring a cartoon illustration of a fierce Nittany Lion with football in paw.
Beth worked as a high school reading specialist until retirement and then moved to Avalon, NJ. Her favorite hobbies included traveling, reading, collecting sea glass and volunteering in the community. She served on the Avalon Planning/Zoning Board for over 20 years and was a longtime member of the Nittany Lion Club, Avalon Yacht Club, Avalon Environmental Commission, and Avalon Garden Club.
In her memory, donations may be made to the Avalon Garden Club, PO Box 43, Avalon, NJ 08202. Service will be at the Cape May County Veterans Cemetery Chapel, 127 Crest Haven Road, Cape May Court House, NJ on December 21, 2024 at 11:00 am. In celebration of Beth's life, please wear Penn State gear or navy and white.
