THOMPSON, DAVID R.
David Radcliffe Thompson, 89, of Cape May Court House, NJ, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on October 3, 2024. David was born on May 17, 1935 in Elizabeth, N.J., to Harold and Lisbeth (Winkler) Thompson.
David graduated from Dayton Regional High School in Springfield, N.J. in 1953 and served in the United States Navy from 1953 — 1957 aboard the USS Navasota (AO-106).
David married Carol Frankenfield on September 16, 1961 in Mountainside, N.J.
David & Carol moved to Turks and Caicos Island and Cape Canaveral, FL for his work with RCA. During this time, the couple welcomed their first two sons, Douglas and Bryan in 1962 and 1964.
The family of four moved to Aviano, Italy while David worked for Raytheon Company until 1967. After departing Italy, David and family settled in Westfield, N.J. for over three decades, where they welcomed two more children, Glenn and Christine.
David graduated from NJIT becoming an Electrical Engineer with Lockheed Martin and Telos Corporation before retiring in 2000, and building their forever home down the shore.
David loved his morning coffee by the water and would visit 30th Street in Avalon to enjoy the ocean almost every day. He was a member of the American Legion Posts in Westfield, Cape May Court House and Ocean City, N.J., serving as Treasurer for the Cape May County American Legion for many years. David was an active member of the Bayshore Club for over two decades.
David was a dutiful husband and father who loved his family and made their well-being his number one priority in life.
David was predeceased by his parents, Harold & Lisbeth and his brother-in-law, Timothy Herty.
David is survived by his wife, Carol, four children, Douglas, Bryan (Annette), Glenn and Christine (Matthew), four grandchildren, Mary Rose, Jake, Maison and Eddie, cousin, Robert, sister-in-law, Lois, niece, Carolyn, nephew, John and their families.
A service for David will be held at South Seaville United Methodist Church on November 2, 2024 at 11:00 AM. 115 Corsons Tavern Rd., South Seaville, NJ 08246.
