SWEENEY, SR., WILLIAM

SWEENEY, SR., WILLIAM William (Bill) Sweeney Sr. passed away on May 17, 2024, at the age of 83. He was born on September 12, 1940. Bill had a rich and fulfilling life, marked by various experiences and accomplishments. He graduated from Delhaas High School in 1958 and served in the Navy from 1958 to 1964 on the USS Midway and USS Cavalla 244. After his service, Bill became an electrician through the IBEW, where he dedicated 60 years of his life as a member. He eventually retired in 2003. Bill (Pop-Pop) was deeply dedicated to his family, coaching his children as they grew up and creating lasting memories with them. Bill would often drive hundreds of miles to make sure that he attended his children's events. He once made it a point to not miss graduations and attended one then drove 800 miles to attend the next one on the following day. Bill made it a point to see his children and grandchildren in whatever adventure they were having, he watched motorcycle races at Daytona, Softball in New Jersey, Football in Boston and Horse Racing in New Jersey. Whether near or far, Dad made his children and then grandchildren, his priority in each of their endeavors. He enjoyed deep-sea fishing, gambling, and spending time with loved ones at the Princeton and Circle, exchanging stories and laughter. He is survived by his brother James Sweeney, his children William Sweeney Jr. (Anna), Mark Sweeney (Bobbie), Jackie Bond (Steve), Lisa Hall (Michael), and Jeff Ferguson (Cathy), as well as his grandchildren Avalon Sweeney, Kylee Sweeney, Keegan Sweeney, Garrett Sweeney, Stephen Bond, Anna Bond, Irene Wilkoff, Peter Hall, Brianna Barrineau and Tyler Ferguson and his great-grandchildren Amara Sweeney, Calvin Wilkoff, Cooper Wilkoff and Olivia Hall. Bill was preceded in death by his father James F Sweeney, mother Irene Sweeney, and brother Thomas Sweeney. A celebration of Bill's life will be held on Friday, May 31st, between 4 pm and 7 pm at the Princeton, where family and friends will gather to honor his memory and share stories of his impactful life. He will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by all who knew him.
