Somers Point – Shore Medical Center recently named their Employees of the Month for the months of August and September for their outstanding service and for exemplifying the organization’s mission, vision, and values. In August, the title went to Deborah Oatman of Egg Harbor Township, and in September, the title was passed to Christina Shiffler, RN, of Marmora.
August Employee of the Month: Deborah Oatman, Department Health Unit Coordinator/Tele Tech
Oatman began working at Shore Medical Center in 2002 as a registrar in the Emergency Department, and in 2011 she transferred into the role of health unit coordinator. In March 2020 – just before COVID – Oatman transitioned into her current role as a night shift HUC/telemetry technician. In these roles, she supports the Emergency Department by managing patient flow and communication while monitoring patient cardiac rhythms to ensure timely, coordinated, and safe patient care.
Sherri Richmond, MSN, RN, Administrative Director of the Emergency Department, Pediatric Care Center and Respiratory Therapy, says Oatman is referred to as the calming force of the emergency department.
“Deborah is kind, compassionate and a cheerleader who can lighten any mood. She senses when the team needs extra support after a difficult situation and will reach out to the manager to ensure that happens,” Richmond says. “She goes the extra mile to support her colleagues, and is a fierce patient and family advocate. She always finds a way to get them anything they need to assist them during their stay in the ED.”
Oatman’s compassion is also evident in her enthusiasm for assisting people in need outside the hospital, especially unhoused individuals. She has been active in many outreach projects through the Emergency Department, including donating to food banks, supplying clothing and toiletries for people in need, and educating community members about flu vaccination.
September Employee of the Month: Christina Shiffler, RN, Endoscopy Nurse

Shiffler began her career at Shore in August 2021. As an endoscopy nurse, Shiffler prepares patients for procedures, provides attentive care throughout, supports them in their recovery, and serves as a knowledgeable charge nurse guiding the team. She is known within the Endoscopy Department as a dependable colleague who provides exceptional clinical care while also taking a leadership role, guiding her team with professionalism and compassion.
Paul Sikora, BSN, RN, manager of Endoscopy, Interventional Radiology, and Cardiac Cath Lab, praised Shiffler for her professionalism and leadership.
“Christina consistently goes above and beyond in supporting both patients and colleagues, demonstrating strong leadership and clinical skills while fostering a collaborative and positive work environment. Her ability to lead the department when needed, mentor new staff, and model professionalism has elevated the quality of care within the department and thus Shore Medical Center as a whole. Her commitment, reliability, and willingness to take initiative embodies the core values of Shore Medical Center, making her a true role model for her peers and a deserving recipient of Employee of the Month.”
Outside of work, Shiffler is a proud mom of two boys, and enjoys spending time with her family.
