SEA ISLE CITY – Sea Isle City opened bids, Aug. 8, for construction of a long-anticipated dog park on the south end of the island near Landis Avenue and Seventh Street.

With the lowest bid at just under $1 million, this is a significant investment for the city. By next summer, dogs banned from the beach during the tourist season may have a place to call their own.

The dog park, complete with a shaded pavilion for human chaperons, will be located away from residential neighborhoods to minimize disturbance from loud canines. Plans call for sections for large and small dogs.

An award is expected in September, with construction likely in the fall. The goal will be completion in time for next summer season.
