The Skimmer Festival received its name from the summertime straw hats formerly worn by Victorian gentlemen. To announce that Sea Isle City was open for business after the infamous Ash Wednesday Storm of 1962, local community leaders started this festival in 1963. This event has since become an annual tradition for families and visitors to enjoy for the last 62 years!
