ROBBIO, DAVID PAUL
David Paul Robbio, born in Providence, RI on August 1, 1959 passed away peacefully at Cooper Cape Regional Hospital in Cape May Court House, NJ on January 13, 2025.
David grew up in Cranston, RI, and attended Cranston East High School. He enlisted in the US Coast Guard in 1983. He attended Basic Training in Cape May, NJ and went to Governor's Island, NY for training as an Electronics Technician.
The Coast Guard brought Dave and his family to Cape May Court House, NJ in 2001.
David rose through the enlisted ranks and was direct commissioned to the Officer core as a Lieutenant and ultimately retired as a W-4 in 2012 after a successful 30 year career.
Dave's Coast Guard career highlights include service on the Nantucket Light Ship based in Boston, MA; 3 years on a buoy tender in Homer, Alaska where the crew assisted with oil cleanup after the 1989 Exxon Valdez oil spill; and five years at the Coast Guard Research and Development Center in Connecticut developing satellite global positioning onto electronic charts for navigation. Later in his career, he worked in the LORAN sector and oversaw the decommissioning of LORAN sites across the globe and the final shutdown of the LORAN program.
Dave will be dearly missed by his wife of 41 years, Anita (Smith) Robbio, his 3 children Kristin Robbio (Scott Edmonds) of Wilmington DE, Ahna Robbio (Jeff Wallace) of New Orleans, LA, and Nicholas Robbio (Marisa Payne) of Virginia Beach, VA, his sisters Donna Robbio and Linda Curtin in Rhode Island, and his many nieces and nephews and extended family.
Dave was a kind and gentle person, always ready to help, generous to his family, and always took care of his Coast Guard crew. He was a proud dad and husband, and we will always remember his silliness and his loving care.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, February 15, 2025 at Radzieta Funeral Home, 9 Hand Avenue, Cape May Court House, NJ 08210. Visitation will be at 10 am with a service following at 11am.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation toward a memorial paver at the Coast Guard Museum in New London at https://everloved.com/life-of/david-robbio/.
