A 21-year-old Rio Grande man was charged with manufacturing child pornography and endangering the welfare of a child, the Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office announced Friday, March 22.
Javish Roman was booked on the charges March 21 after an investigation revealed he had been exchanging video and photographs with an out-of-state juvenile engaging in sexual acts, the Prosecutor’s Office said.
Prosecutors also said he had over 1,000 items containing child sexual abuse material in his possession, which they discovered in evidence seized March 14.
Roman was charged with first-degree manufacturing child pornography, second-degree endangering the welfare of a child, relating to possession of child pornography, and third-degree general endangering the welfare of a child.
He is in the Cape May County jail awaiting court proceedings. Under statute, those convicted of a first-degree crime could face 10 to 20 years in state prison.
In the release announcing the arrest, Cape May County Prosecutor Jeffrey H. Sutherland thanked the Middle Township Police Department and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security for their assistance, as well as his office’s High-Tech Crimes Task Force.
