Re: ‘Reflections on Democracy, Leadership, and the Trump Era’

By Kathy Birmingham, Del Haven

To the Editor:

I cannot express how comforting this column in the 3/27/24 edition was to me. I grew up in an Irish American household where family gathered around the kitchen table, argued politics, sports, neighborhood issues, etc. But always left the table hugging and wishing each other well.

The animosity and vitriol we experience today is so disheartening. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but we all need to support our government, respect its leaders and exercise our right to vote in order for our democracy to flourish or bring positive change.

Thank you for the courage to speak out (very eloquently and honestly) on the need to vote for candidates who can respect our democracy and are knowledgeable in government and bipartisanship.
