To the Editor:
I favor the proposed sports complex being considered by the DRBA at the airport in Lower Township that will offer additional athletic opportunities to children and adults, some of which are already provided for through the school district, recreation department and various gyms. However, the indoor pool which was approved by the citizens a few years ago has died an ugly, silent death. Perhaps the design was overly ambitious but it would have filled a need.
Adults and seniors who are trying to recover from orthopedic surgeries, alleviate the effects of arthritis and/or get the physical and aerobic activity that results in healthy aging have been ignored. Inclusion of a yoga space does not suffice! The mayor and council could meet with the DRBA officials and suggest an expansion of the original proposal that would address the needs of ALL our township residents.
Interestingly, according to a recent article in the Herald, this proposal arose from a need experienced personally. The company which presented this proposal has actually constructed a sports complex that included an indoor pool. So, it is possible.
