MIDDLE TOWNSHIP – Plans for a $2.5 million upgrade of the Clarence Davies Sports Complex in Goshen are near the finish line: The Cape May County Open Space Review Board on March 18 recommended the project for approval at the May 13 meeting of the county commissioners.
The project includes refurbishing athletic fields, updating lighting and dugouts, and improvements to seating, the announcer’s box and the concession stand. The proposal also calls for concrete or asphalt paving in certain areas, new signage and security improvements.
There will be a public hearing May 13 at 3 p.m. in the commissioner’s meeting room at the county administration building on 4 Moore Road, Court House. The hearing will open a 45-day public comment period, after which the commissioners will vote on final approval of the project for open space funding.
Mayor Chris Leusner said the project represents an “exciting step forward” for the township. The 65-acre complex on Goshen Road includes fields for soccer, football, softball and baseball, along with a concession stand. Leusner said the upgrades will “create a safer, more enjoyable environment” for all who use the complex.
