Ørsted’s $100M Promise

By Brendan Kelly, Sea Isle City

To the Editor:

Do not be fooled by Ørsted’s $100 million promise that their wind farm will be operational by December 2025.

The bill contains this loophole on page six: “The performance security under this paragraph shall not be forfeited if the board finds that the project did not achieve commercial operation within 12 months after the board-approved commercial operations date due solely to a change in federal law, policy, or procedures that affect the entire industry and result in material delays to the project through no faults of its own.”

Cape May County filed suit challenging the policies and procedures that allowed the project to move forward. If this lawsuit or any other lawsuit against offshore wind prevails then it will trigger a change in policy or procedure and Ørsted will get their money back.
