To The Editor:
I never had the privilege of meeting Diane Weiss from Wildwood Crest, who wrote the most poignant Letter to the Editor I have ever read in last weeks’ Herald.
I would only change one word from “My” America to “Our” America. Weiss, I am sure, speaks for those of us who are Americans and like her, we wonder what happened to “Our America.” Maybe we could be fortunate and have Weiss become a candidate for Congress or the United State Senate and we could find out what happened to “Our America.”
My grandfather came to America from Germany in 1888, and could not speak a word of English. He learned how to speak English, and when he died in 1945, he did speak English.
My father, who was born in 1892 in Philadelphia, never graduated from high school, but he did serve in the First World War in our American army, and was honorably discharged at the end of the war. He was not drafted, but voluntarily joined the 29th Division, 108th Field Artillery of the Pennsylvania National Guard, serving in France and Belgium.
My wife graduated from Germantown High School, and went to work for the next 40 years and always paid into Social Security until she decided to take early Social Security. Her monthly stipend was $54. Of course, she is not an illegal immigrant, nor a refugee, so she did not qualify for, and still does not receive, what the refugees and immigrants receive. Of course, my wife is an American citizen and does speak English.
Of course, we are faced with illegal immigrants possibly becoming, via edict, citizens with the right to vote by November 2012, so that our president can be re-elected. It is estimated that there are 15 million illegal immigrants, and when the Attorney General, Eric Holder and President Obama declare them to be America citizens, with the right to vote, “Our America” will no longer be Our America.

Cape May – The number one reason I didn’t vote for Donald Trump was January 6th and I found it incredibly sad that so many Americans turned their back on what happened that day when voting. I respect that the…
