To the Editor:
I was among the volunteers for the first “Wreaths Across America” ceremony at the Veteran’s Cemetery in Court House. Among the ranks of the military being recognized and honored was a gentleman who was a Stalag 17 prisoner of war. He is still standing and so proud.
With tears streaming from my eyes, I stood proudly as we pledged our allegiance to the flag, raised our voices in song to “The Star Spangled Banner” and “God Bless America.” It was also a learning experience for me.
Buried at our cemetery there are over 5,000 including spouses, and across America there are over 93,000 military members still missing. The fundraising efforts for this first time effort produced around 400 wreaths.
It was raining and cold as we laid a wreath at each gravesite – a small sacrifice to pay compared to what these men, women, and their families have given for us. A thankless service, as thought so by many of the people today.
When I returned home I got to thinking, for all of the protestors and flag burners out there who are unhappy with our country, we really owe you a ‘thank you.’ Whether you realize it or not, every time you march in protest or desecrate our flag you are actually thanking these brave men and women who have made it possible for your freedom to do so. So let me be the first to say ‘thank you.’ These brave men and women have not served and or given their lives in vain. You are free!
Cape May – Governor Murphy says he doesn't know anything about the drones and doesn't know what they are doing but he does know that they are not dangerous. Does anyone feel better now?
