wood boilers

By Foose

I was born and raised in Erma, and was a longtime resident of Lower Township. I made a decision to move to a rural area of Pennsylvania ten years ago. After reading last weeks herald and observing the changes in the county I can say without a doubt I made the right decision to move out of the area. It sickens me to see what this once lovely area has now become.
I currently live in an area that uses these wood burning boilers/furnaces in high frequency. I am no expert, but I can tell you this, they are not the nuisance that they are being made out to be. I can’t say that I am shocked but I am appalled that the ignorant mentality of the neighbors and the neighborhood is actually being substantiated by the police and the local government. Fact is, you need to learn more about them and how they work. They are more green than your conventional furnaces and emit LESS pollution actually… But that is neither here nor there if narrow minded ignorant politicians are running the township and passing unreasonable laws to protect the narrow minded ignorant residents. The fact that the local government actually endorsed an ordinance to deal with them as a nuisance sent chills down my spine. An oil fired furnace allows more combustible fumes in a manner that is offensive you just don’t visibly see it! I personally find that the oil burning process is more of a nuisance than the smell of a good wood fire so where do you draw the line? Who decides what is offensive and what is acceptable? Do you have some sort of professional snout to verify the perpetrator and level of particular offense? You people are truly ridiculous!
Boy I am glad to live in a normal place where neighbors actually know and support each other and often help each other load their respective wood boxes! My advice to the man who spent the investment in his wood boiler and now has discord with his neighbors and will likely be fined by the township any day now…C’mon up here to PA and live the good life with like minded folks- Erma is for the birds!
